Just eight of 435 congressional districts backed a Republican in their House race and Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. Omaha, Nebraska, is at the heart of one of those and the contest for an open seat in November is shaping up as a key indicator of President Donald Trump’s efforts to make the midterms all about him. Rep. Don Bacon is retiring and fellow Republican Brinker Harding, a member of the City Council, is running against Democratic activist Denise Powell. Trump has endorsed Harding and the president's influence is strong in Nebraska. But whether that helps or hurts in Omaha remains to be seen.
