A federal appeals court has rejected Anthropic's challenge to the Pentagon's labeling of it as a supply chain risk. The decision, made by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Friday, allows the Pentagon to remove Anthropic's Claude models from its systems. The dispute began in February when President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth accused Anthropic of endangering national security. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei refused to back down. The ruling is separate from a previous case where a judge found the Pentagon acted illegally against Anthropic for its criticism of AI use.

The White House network video pool is back in operation. Friday morning marked the first time the pool has been in action since President Donald Trump banned three news outlets in an extraordinary showdown over media access. A judge temporarily struck down the ban of CNN, MS NOW and Politico on Thursday, but his ruling didn’t directly address the pool. CNN media analyst Brian Stelter says on X that CNN has a pool assignment at the National Archives on Friday with President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. He says the White House approved the network’s credentials.

Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks on its nuclear program in seven days if the United States lifts its naval blockade, waives sanctions on Iranian oil sales and observes a ceasefire that would include Lebanon. Iran’s foreign minister detailed the proposal in a private gathering on Thursday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to one attendee. The deal strongly resembles the so-called Memorandum of Understanding reached in June, but with an accelerated timetable. The earlier agreement, which had called for a 60-day interim period, collapsed within weeks as Iran resumed attacks on shipping in the strait.
