FORT HALL — A horse is dead and two people suffered injuries after a car struck the animal Thursday night on the Fort Hall Reservation.

The crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. at Highway 91 near Ballard Road when a horse ran onto the highway and was struck by a 1999 Honda Civic, authorities said.

The adult male driver of the car and his adult female passenger were both rushed by ambulances to Portneuf Medical Center for treatment. Their names and conditions have not been released.

The wreck temporarily shut down the highway.

The horse died at the scene and the collision left the Honda with major damage.

Emergency units from Pocatello and Fort Hall responded to the crash along with Idaho State Police.

The accident remains under investigation.
