SALT LAKE CITY — During the recent session of the annual general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a new Sunday School General Presidency was called and 10 new general authority Seventies and 55 area Seventies were announced.

Henry J. Eyring, current president of Brigham Young University-Idaho, was one of those called to serve as as an area Seventy of the church.

“General Authority Seventies serve in the Presidency of the Seventy, in area presidencies, and in other headquarters administrative functions. Under the direction of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, they travel frequently to meet with and teach Church leaders, missionaries and members of the Church in local congregations,” according to Mormon Newsroom.

It is unknown as to how this will affect President Eyring’s current status as president of BYU-Idaho. In previous years, former BYU-Idaho presidents Elder David A. Bednar and Kim B. Clark have served as general authorities during their role as president.
