The members of the Fort Hall Business Council pose for a picture.

We want to address, with deep sadness, the recent tragic event that occurred in our tribal community. On July 5, 2024 an officer involved shooting incident took place on the Fort Hall Reservation resulting in one fatality and one Fort Hall Police officer who sustained a gunshot wound.

The Fort Hall Business Council of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes would like to express our sincere condolences to the families, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved. The safety of our community is of the utmost importance.

The FBI is leading the investigation and the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the Administrative Investigation. The FBI has jurisdiction under the Major Crimes Act in Indian Country when a major crime happens against a member of a federally recognized tribe within the boundaries of a reservation. All future updates regarding this case will come from the FBI.
