PARMA — A Parma city councilman who was arrested last week on suspicion of lewd conduct with a minor has resigned from his position.

Former Councilman Myron Jenkins submitted his letter of resignation Friday, according to Parma Mayor Nathan Leigh.

“This wasn’t in any way how I wanted this to be, and I am forever sorry. I Myron Jenkins as of this day resign from my seat of Parma City Council,” reads the letter addressed to Leigh.

Jenkins, 36, was arrested July 17 following accusations reported to the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office that Jenkins was having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl. Detectives were alerted of the allegations July 15 when the victim described unwanted sexual touching on two separate occasions earlier this year, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The press release stated Jenkins told detectives during an interview July 17 that he touched the victim in a sexual manner twice in February and asked the victim to not say anything about the incidents because he could go to jail.

Jenkins was elected to Parma City Council in November 2017 and sworn into office in January, according to Leigh. His four-year term on Parma City Council runs until 2022.

Jenkins was released from the Canyon County Jail July 18 after posting a $50,000 bond. He is set to appear in court again on July 31.

Applications for the open seat will be available online this week and are available now at Parma City Hall, Leigh said. Applications are due Aug. 20.
