Brenden Kilgore, Sr., Highland

Best time: 16:28.7

The lowdown: Kilgore closed the curtains on his Highland career with his best prep season. The senior ran sub 18-minute times in all 10 races, including a personal-best mark of 16 minutes, 28.7 seconds at the 5A state meet to finish eighth. He finished 55th at last year’s state meet. He also finished third at this season’s 5A District 5-6 meet, four spots better than a year ago.

Dallin Bird, Soph., Pocatello

Best time: 16:08.1

The lowdown: Bird was Pocatello’s top runner this season. He ran sub 18-minute marks in eight of nine races and won two races, including the Pocatello City meet. Bird finished fourth at the 4A District 5-6 meet to qualify for his first 4A state meet, where he finished ninth. Bird’s top time this season of 16 minutes, 8.1 seconds came at the Bob Firman Invitational, where he took first in his division.

Josh Harrison, Soph., Preston

Best time: 16:24.6

The lowdown: Harrison finished the season with seven sub 17-minute, 25-second races. He had a top-10 finish in six of seven races, including a fifth-place mark at the 4A District 5-6 meet. He capped his season with a 13th-place finish at the 4A state meet, seven spots better than his state finish a year ago.

Keagan Andersen, Jr., Shelley

Best time: 16:48.0

The lowdown: Andersen was one of the Russets’ top runners. He saved his best for the end of the season, when he clocked a 16-minute, 48-second race at the 3A state meet to finish fourth with a personal-best time. His state run, which was one of three sub 17-minute races this season, came on the heels of a seventh-place finish at the 3A District 6 meet.

Riley Reid, Soph., Preston

Best time: 16:21.4

The lowdown: Reid burst onto the scene in his second year at Preston and ran three sub 17-minute races. The runner’s best finish as a freshman was 18th place, but he had six top-10 marks this season, including a sixth-place finish at the 4A District 5-6 meet. Reid also won his first-career prep meet at the Cache Box Invitational.

SECOND TEAM

Brigham Murdoch, Jr., Shelley

Best time: 16:59.2

The lowdown: Murdoch ran nine sub 18-minute races this season after coming into his junior year with three such marks. He finished in sixth place at the 3A District 6 meet and seventh place at the 3A state meet. He had zero top-10 finishes in his previous two seasons.

Austin Despain, Soph., Blackfoot

Best time: 16:39.6

The lowdown: Despain finished in the top 10 four times this season, including second-place marks at the Clear Lakes Classic and Firth Invitational. Despain finished 11th at the 4A District 5-6 meet and 18th at the 4A state meet, his first appearance at state.

Cade Arellano, Sr., Soda Springs

Best time: 16:35.8

The lowdown: Arellano had his best season as a Cardinal in 2017, posting six sub 18-minute races and six top-10 finishes. His best mark was second place at the 2A District 5 meet, followed up with a fourth-place mark at the 2A state meet.

Shane Gard, Fr., Pocatello

Best time: 16:41.7

The lowdown: Gard won the freshman division of the Bob Firman Invitational for his first-career first-place prep finish. The first-year runner also finished third at the Pocatello City Meet and ninth at the 4A District 5-6 meet. In his first 4A state meet, he paced himself for a 30th-place finish.

Jacob Moffat, Soph., West Side

Best time: 16:38.7

The lowdown: Moffat paced the Pirates all season, including third-place finishes at the 2A District 5 and 2A state meets. He ran sub 17-minute races twice this season, including a season-best time of 16 minutes, 38.7 seconds at state.
