Senior Porter Campbell ran away with the boys title Thursday at the Blake Stephens Invitational, leading Preston to a team victory at Idaho State University.

Campbell’s winning time of 16:32.3 paced the Indians to 40 points. Ririe was the next closest team with 77. Ryan Burnett added a second-place finish (16:44.3), while McCallen Campbell took ninth (17:18.7).

Soda Springs placed third with 85 points, led by Landon Moldenhauer’s fourth-place showing (16:54.1). Snake River finished fourth (92 points) behind Graham High (sixth, 17:05.0) and Matthew Bennett (eighth, 17:10.3). West Side took fifth (106 points) with Ethan Willis running 16:44.5 for third place. Century was sixth with 124 points, and Bear Lake seventh with 148.

On the girls side, Preston scored 58 points to finish runner-up behind Ririe. Avery Fullmer led the Indians with a fourth-place time of 20:18.5, followed by Avery Hansen (sixth, 21:04.5) and Payce Jones (ninth, 21:22.1).

Snake River’s Paetyn Polatis took second overall (19:47.3), while Century’s Adyson DeClark was third (20:12.0).

Soda Springs finished a close third with 59 points, just one point behind Preston. Ellie Wood led the Cardinals with a fifth-place finish (20:28.0). Brinley Kunz (eighth, 21:18.5) and Ameliarose Harris (10th, 21:22.6) also cracked the top 10 for Soda Springs.

Century placed fifth overall, while Snake River finished fourth, West Side sixth, and Bear Lake seventh.

HIGHLAND GIRLS’ STATE TROPHY DROUGHT REACHES 7 YEARS

The Rams finished fifth at the Class 6A State Tournament at RedHawk Golf Course in Nampa on Friday, carding a 144-over (712) and falling 11 strokes short of Mountain View for the fourth and final trophy spot.

Making matters worse, no Ram reached the individual podium. Megan Merrill came closest, tying for 12th at 19-over (161) after struggling to a 10-over final round that left her one stroke worse than her opening day. Rocky Mountain captured its sixth consecutive team title at 39-over, while Coeur d’Alene’s Ella Wilson defended her individual championship with a 2-under performance.

On the boys side, Highland finished last in the team standings at 68-over (636). Tanner Borgholthaus was their best finisher with a tie for 14th at 8-over (150). Thunder Ridge’s Justin Anderson repeated as individual champion, edging Mountain View’s Gavin Mlynarik in a one-hole playoff to finish at 4-under. Mountain View claimed the team title at 11-over.

At the Class 5A State Tournament at Purple Sage in Caldwell, Century’s Liam McGee sits in second place at 1-over par (72) after Day 1, trailing Bishop Kelly’s Aiden Szentanai by four strokes. Preston’s boys team is in fourth at 39-over. On the girls side, Century’s Kambell Richards is tied for sixth at 11-over (83), while the Diamondbacks sit just two strokes behind Bishop Kelly for the fourth and final team trophy spot at 87-over (375).

POCATELLO 3, MINICO 0

The Thunder (19-13, 1-0 5A South East Idaho Conference) snapped a five-game skid with a 25-11, 25-22, 25-14 road sweep Thursday in nonconference play.

Abby Lusk dominated with 23 kills, two aces, four digs and two blocks. Josie Haymore dished out 27 assists and added 13 digs, while Addy Gregory tallied 20 digs. Lainey Rogers chipped in six kills and six digs.

MALAD 3, SODA SPRINGS 0

The Dragons (21-9, 8-0 3A South East Idaho Conference) extended their league winning streak to 33 matches Thursday on senior night.

Malad hasn’t lost a conference match since the end of the 2021 season. Brynnlee Jones led the way with nine kills and 16 digs. Izzy Haycock, Jette Nelson and Liv Nelson each had seven kills, with Haycock adding 19 digs. Paityn Ward anchored the defense with 30 digs, while Kialey Pickett added 10. Mady VanBebber chipped in five kills.

DECLO 3, ABERDEEN 0

The Tigers (3-22-1, 0-9 3A South East Idaho Conference) were swept 12-25, 10-25, 22-25 in a league match Thursday on the road.

Ariana Hernandez recorded four digs and four aces, while Marley Kendall had five digs and two kills for Aberdeen.

MALAD 3, DECLO 0

The Dragons rolled to a 25-14, 25-12, 25-8 win Wednesday at home in 3A South East Idaho Conference play.

Brynnlee Jones paced Malad with 12 kills and 14 digs. Jette Nelson added 10 kills and seven digs, while Paityn Ward led the defense with 19 digs. Kialey Pickett tallied 10 digs. Izzy Haycock had four kills and seven digs, and Liv Nelson added four kills and 12 digs.

BEAR LAKE 3, PRESTON 0

The Bears (28-3, 6-0 4A South East Idaho Conference) swept the Indians 25-17, 25-22, 25-16 on the road Wednesday in league play.

Halle Wells led Bear Lake with 12 kills, four digs and two aces. Kylie Thompson added five kills, while KortLyn Skinner tallied 13 digs. Avery Hunter and Paisley Lloyd each had seven digs.

GRACE 3, SODA SPRINGS 1

The Grizzlies (16-14-2, 2-1 2A High Desert Conference) rallied from a first-set loss for a 21-25, 25-10, 25-20, 26-24 win Tuesday at home in nonconference play.

Amanda Cooper and Lakelynn Zulu each had four blocks, while Brook Wakefield led the defense with 33 digs. Jaycie Smith added 15 digs. Grace followed up with a 25-19, 25-5, 25-13 sweep of Alturas Prep on Wednesday.

HIGHLAND 3, CANYON RIDGE 0

Kennedi Winder had 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Rams (13-16, 2-5 6A High Country Conference) to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-9 sweep Tuesday at home.

Brinley Homer added 11 digs and three aces, while Alivia Blad tallied 10 digs. Jaycie Homer dished out 17 assists, and Britt Reno had 12 assists and three aces. Highland then fell to Thunder Ridge 25-18, 23-25, 16-25, 21-25 on Thursday on the road in league play.

AMERICAN FALLS 7, MALAD 1

Aliana Cruces collected a hat trick and two assists as the Beavers (12-4) cruised in their Class 4A District V Tournament opener Thursday in Marsh Valley.

The performance pushed Cruces’ season total to 43 goals, ninth-best in the nation according to MaxPreps. Jazzy Fonseca added two goals, while Adley Selga and Stephanie Rosales rounded out the scoring for American Falls. Rosales also had two assists.

POCATELLO 4, CENTURY 2

Brynlee Pool racked up all four goals as the Thunder (7-10) began their Class 5A District V Tournament title defense by downing their crosstown rivals Thursday at home.

Araya Trejo and Tatum Welsh both scored for the Diamondbacks (5-9-2) in the loss.

HIGHLAND 9, RIGBY 0

Devree Bell’s hat trick led the Rams (12-3-1, 8-0 6A High Country Conference) to their ninth straight victory Monday in their regular season finale on senior night.

Ashlynn Hale and Lauren Flores each added a goal and two assists, while Peyton Looney had a goal and two assists. Lexi Vawdrey, Presley Kapp and Taryn Roth also found the net for Highland.

Jaxon Smith and Chance Smedley both scored twice to power the Eagles (9-5-3) in their Class 4A District V Tournament opener Thursday at home.

Shad McBride added the other goal for Marsh Valley. The loss extended Snake River’s (1-14-1) winless streak to 46 matches dating back more than two years.

Jason Boyle and Zen Griggs each netted a goal as the Thunder (6-5-3) edged their crosstown rivals in the Class 5A District V Tournament semifinals Thursday at home.

Lucas Hair scored for the Diamondbacks (4-9-2) in the loss.

Fed Orosco recorded a brace, but the Broncos (6-3-4, 5-2-3 5A High Country Conference) fell in their regular season finale Wednesday on the road.
