FILE - Jade Carey, of the United States, celebrates after performing on the vault during the women's artistic gymnastics team finals round at Bercy Arena at the 2024 Summer Olympics, July 30, 2024, in Paris.
Jade Carey doesn't need to compete at the U.S. gymnastics championships, but she's doing it for the joy. The 26-year-old Olympic gold medalist could have retired after her NCAA career ended in 2025, but she returned to the gym for fun. Carey says she has no expectations or pressure, just a desire to enjoy the sport. Her father and coach supports her flexible training approach. Carey plans to add difficulty gradually as she vies for a spot on the 2028 U.S. Olympic team. Carey says her internal drive to compete remains strong. She wants to see how far she can push herself while enjoying every moment.
