Highland continued to stifle district competition Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader at Bonneville, 11-0, 7-0. The Rams have not allowed a run in four 5A District 5-6 games.

Kiara Grover compiled 30 strikeouts and allowed two hits in 12 innings against the Bees.

“We pitched great, had 30 strikeouts. That doesn’t hurt,” Highland coach Tisha Coverdell said. “The defense was playing great behind her. Hitting-wise, it was a good effort across the board.”

Keana Harmon had a team-high five hits for Highland on eight at-bats. Ashlyn Winn had the most loaded statline, tallying four hits, four runs and three RBIs in seven at-bats in the doubleheader.

Highland (13-2, 4-0 5A District 5-6) hosts Pocatello on Friday at Capell Park.

Pocatello split a doubleheader at Skyline on Wednesday, losing 13-3 in five innings before beating the Grizzlies 11-1 in five.

The Indians were doomed in the opener after giving up six third-inning runs, putting them behind 8-0 in a game they allowed three homers. Poky rebounded in game two by scoring multiple runs in four of five innings.

“Defensively, we were not very sound in the first game, “Pocatello coach Josh Naylor said.

“The second game, we buckled down and played good defense and had some better at-bats.”

Hannah Evans led the Indians to their win from the mound, allowing three hits and no earned runs, while striking out six and walking no one in a complete game. Hailey Morris led Poky hitters, with two hits, three runs and four RBIs in four at-bats.

Pocatello (17-2, 5-1 4A District 5-6) plays Friday against Highland at Capell Park.

BEAR LAKE 5, SODA SPRINGS 4

Bear Lake survived against Soda Springs on Wednesday, pulling off a 5-4 home win.

The Cardinals scored four seventh-inning runs to take their first lead of the game, 4-2. Then, the Bears answered with three runs to win the game.

“We had some kids step up and put the ball in play,” Bear Lake coach Doug Stephens said. “That’s what you always hope for is to get leadership at the end of the game.”

Lyndsay Hanson was Bear Lake’s top hitter, earning two hits and two RBIs in four at-bats.

Bear Lake (7-7, 2-1 2A District 5-6) hosts Snake River on Thursday. Soda Springs hosts the Panthers on Thursday.

Blackfoot at Preston (DH)

Preston’s home league matchup against Blackfoot on Wednesday has been postponed to Thursday because of poor field conditions.

Blackfoot is 4-4 and 2-2 in 4A District 5-6. while Preston is 1-7 and 0-3 in league play.

Aberdeen, Soda Springs, Grace at Caribou Highlands Golf Course

The Grace boys and girls outlasted Soda Springs and Aberdeen on Wednesday at Caribou Highlands Golf Course.

The Grizzlies’ boys carded a 323, while the girls tallied a 425.

Aberdeen’s Bo Knittel recorded the best boys score with a 74, while Soda Springs’ Tyler Erickson had the best girls score with a 74.
