In response to Max Shaffer’s recent letter to the editor regarding Tommy Ahlquist’s vision for Idaho, I have to disagree with the author’s conclusions.
Tommy Ahlquist has anything but a clear vision for Idaho. Ahlquist has already flip-flopped on some of Idaho’s most important issues from breaching dams to traditional marriage. Now we find out the $100 million he was going to cut from the budget provides no savings to Idaho taxpayers at all. At times Ahlquist doesn’t even know what party he supports by making more donations to Democrats than Republicans before running for office. Ahlquist even donated $5,000 to A.J. Balukoff when he was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2014.
However, what I find most troubling is Tommy Ahlquist has not even been a regular voter. Between 2000 and 2016 he missed the opportunity to vote in several statewide and local elections. I believe being an engaged voter is an important qualification for running for governor.
