A woman was airlifted to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello late Monday night after suffering injuries in a UTV crash in the Scout Mountain area — the second rescue there in less than a week.

Monday’s crash was reported around 10:40 p.m., triggering a large emergency response from Bannock County sheriff’s deputies and search and rescue personnel, along with ambulances from Pocatello and Lava Hot Springs.

Deputies eventually located the woman, who was injured when the UTV crashed, overturned and landed on top of her, authorities said.

PMC’s emergency helicopter was called to the scene and airlifted the woman to the hospital for treatment.

The people with the woman used the UTV’s headlights to give emergency responders some idea of their location in the dark, but it still took deputies nearly an hour to reach the scene in the mountainous terrain. PMC’s helicopter landed at the scene a short time later around 11:45 p.m.

The woman’s name and condition have not yet been released.

Monday’s rescue comes less than a week after a Pocatello teenager was airlifted from the same area following a dirt bike crash.

The boy crashed around 8 p.m. Thursday on a backcountry trail in the Scout Mountain area south of Pocatello. Bannock County sheriff’s deputies and search and rescue personnel responded and requested an emergency helicopter, but PMC’s helicopter was unavailable, so a Lifeflight Network helicopter from Burley was called in instead.

It landed near the scene around 10 p.m. Thursday and flew the boy to PMC for treatment.

His name and condition have not been released.
