Thanks to plentiful snow, the annual Ashton American Dog Derby kicked off on Friday.

Organizer John Scafe said he was happy that Mother Nature had cooperated and that so many came to the race.

“I’m happy with the turnout,” he said.

According to Scafe, 15 mushers entered the race. Of those were two junior racers. They all came from as close to home as Utah and as far away as Minnesota.

The races continued Sunday with the Mutt Race and Snowshoe Race being held.
