POCATELLO — A 22-year-old local man was arrested Wednesday after police say he fired several shots toward a parked vehicle and home during two drive-by shootings.

Matthew Braxton Adcock has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of discharging a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, all felonies, for consecutive drive-by shootings less than 48 hours apart, according to police and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

Court records state he attempted to cause violent injury to a local man and woman by firing shots toward their home on the 4800 block of Navajo Street during the early morning hours on Tuesday and again while they were sitting in their parked vehicle on Wednesday evening.

The initial investigation unfolded around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday when officers responded to the report of a drive-by shooting where gunfire targeted the Navajo home, according to the police report.

On scene, an officer interviewed a woman and her father, who were inside the residence at the time of the shooting, police said.

Officers found ten bullets that hit the house, all but one of which entered the residence and caused damage, according to the report. What appeared to be six 9mm bullets were recovered at the scene.

The woman, who had just lied down on the couch to go to sleep, reported seeing a dark older sedan in the area around 10 p.m. that night but didn’t think it was significant, said police, adding that she heard about five gunshots, saw light through the front door and ducked for cover until seeing neighbors outside who had already dialed 911, the report said.

Around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, there was a second drive-by shooting incident at the same address while the woman and her father were in their parked vehicle at the residence when it was hit by gunfire, police said.

A neighbor provided investigating officers security camera footage from his Nest camera that showed the suspect vehicle leaving the area and said he believed the car belonged to a nearby resident, according to the report.

Officers used the Flock License Plate Reader system to identify the suspect vehicle’s license plate number, which was registered to a green 1997 Honda Civic that belonged to Adcock, police said.

A previous law enforcement incident involving Adcock’s vehicle in the police database noted the vehicle had a red bumper, which matched witness descriptions from the Wednesday shooting, according to the report.

Adcock was arrested at around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday on Hiawatha Street after returning in his 1997 Honda Civic, said police, adding that five spent 9mm shell casings were visible in the vehicle.

Adcock was wearing a bright neon yellow shirt, as also described by witnesses, and invoked his right to remain silent, according to the report.

A subsequent search warrant of the vehicle yielded a total of 11 spent 9mm shell casings.

The case is still actively being investigated and officers are expected to execute additional search warrants including Adcock’s phone and residence, police said.

Adcock was transported to the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello.

Astonishingly, nobody was hurt in either of the two drive-by shootings.

Adcock appeared in front of 6th District Magistrate Judge Carol Tippi Jarman for an arraignment hearing via video conference from the jail on Thursday, during which his bond was set at $250,000.

He is due back in court on Aug. 13 for a preliminary hearing that will involve local prosecutors attempting to prove there is enough evidence against him to elevate the case from the magistrate to district court level for trial.

If convicted of all of the felony charges filed against him, Adcock faces up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $60,000.
