RAFT RIVER — A wildfire burning east of Raft River has grown to 1,900 acres but is now 70% contained, according to authorities.

The blaze was first reported around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, when the Power County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls about a fire burning between Barkdull and Georges roads near the Coldwater Hill Rest Area on Interstate 86.

Firefighters from the U.S. Wildland Fire Service and the American Falls and Rockland fire departments are battling the blaze, authorities said.

The wildfire is burning in rough terrain with several homes nearby but there have so far been no evacuations.

Authorities believe the fire was likely caused by lightning, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Full containment of the blaze is expected by the night of Sept. 1, with full control expected the night of Sept. 2, according to authorities.

There have been no reports of injuries, damage to structures or road closures as a result of the fire.

The public is being advised to stay away from the fire scene until firefighters extinguish the flames.
