ST. CHARLES — A 22-year-old North Ogden, Utah, man died Friday after his motorcycle collided head-on with an SUV west of St. Charles, marking the second fatal crash in Bear Lake County in roughly 24 hours, according to Idaho State Police.
A 71-year-old local man died late Thursday morning after the ATV he was riding overturned after he swerved to avoid an oncoming van in Ovid.
Friday's crash happened around 11:22 a.m. when the Utah man was riding a white 2026 Kawasaki KLX110 motorcycle eastbound on Minnetonka Cave Road and collided head-on with a tan 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by a 66-year-old Montpelier woman traveling westbound, state police said.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, according to state police.
The Jeep's driver was not wearing a seat belt but did not require transport to the hospital, authorities said.
The names of those involved in the crash have not been released.
The road was blocked for about four hours as crews worked the scene.
Idaho State Police were assisted by the Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office, Bear Lake Emergency Medical Services, Bear Lake Fire Department and Intermountain Life Flight.
The crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
