The Idaho State Police arrested a driver on multiple charges Tuesday after a high-speed chase in Nez Perce County led troopers to perform a PIT maneuver.

ISP dispatch received reports of a red Toyota RAV4 driving recklessly around 2:12 p.m. Tuesday. It was discovered the driver was wanted on charges of felony domestic battery out of Idaho County, according to an ISP news release.

The vehicle was located traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 12, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed when troopers attempted a traffic stop. The driver was seen circling back on the highway several times, and driving into oncoming lanes of travel, according to the news release.

The chase took troopers onto U.S. Highway 95, where they executed a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT maneuver, to protect others on the road, according to the news release. The RAV4 then crashed onto the shoulder near milepost 307 on U.S 95. The vehicle caught fire but the blaze was extinguished quickly and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect refused medical treatment for minor injuries.

The driver’s blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit, according to the news release. They were charged with felony eluding, excessive driving under the influence, concealing a firearm while intoxicated and open container of alcohol.
