Former Idaho State linebacker Mario Jenkins has accepted an invitation to the Kansas City Chiefs' rookie minicamp, he confirmed to the Journal on Monday.

"Happy to be able to continue my dream and achieve another goal of mine!" Jenkins' Facebook post reads. "It’s true if you put in the work no matter what route you take you’ll always get what you worked for! Time to make my dream happen and leave another legacy! Thanks for my family and everyone who supported me throughout the process!"

Jenkins starred on ISU's defense for three seasons. In 2014, he was named the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year and finished third in the voting for the Jerry Rice Award, which honors the top freshman FCS football player. He was a second-team all-Big Sky honoree in 2014 and 2016, and earned a first-team all-conference nod as a redshirt senior in 2017, when he was also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which honors the top defensive player in the FCS. Jenkins finished 24th in the Buck Buchanan Award voting.

Jenkins missed the 2015 season with a knee injury, but rebounded to record a team-high 93 tackles and a team-best 9.5 tackles for loss in 2016. Jenkins finished his ISU career with 324 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and five interceptions, and led the Bengals in tackles each of the three seasons he played.

In 2017, Jenkins tied for the Big Sky lead with 111 tackles and finished tied for 12th in the FCS with 10.1 tackles per game. He earned fourth-team FCS All-America honors from Phil Steele, third-team FCS All-America accolades from STATS and third-team FCS All-America honors from College Sports Madness. Jenkins was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, but participated in ISU's pro day in April in front of a handful of NFL scouts.

Jenkins gives the Bengals two former standouts that garnered an NFL opportunity this weekend. On Saturday, former ISU offensive lineman Skyler Phillips agreed to join the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.
