Former Idaho State offensive lineman Skyler Phillips will join the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent, his agency Reign Sports Management announced Saturday on Twitter.

Phillips was not selected in the three-day, seven-round NFL Draft in Arlington, Texas. But approximately a half hour after the draft ended, Phillips' agency tweeted that the offensive lineman is joining the Seahawks.

"Beyond excited to be a seahawk!" Phillips tweeted. Thankful for the opportunity @Seahawks, let's work!"

Phillips was projected as a late-round pick in multiple mock drafts, but was not among the 256 selections. Idaho State's last NFL Draft pick was Jared Allen in 2004.

"Any time that you can get paid to play this game and continue playing it, that's a good thing, no matter who you go to," ISU head coach Rob Phenicie said Saturday by phone. "Proud of him."

In five seasons with the Bengals, Phillips was tried at all five offensive line positions. He earned a spot on five FCS All-America lists and was a first-team All-Big Sky Conference pick following the 2017 season. Phillips also played in the Reese's Senior Bowl in January and participated in the NFL Scouting Combine in March before returning to Pocatello for a pro day in front of a handful of NFL scouts.

Phillips is the first Idaho State player to sign an NFL contract since former Bengals defensive lineman Tyler Kuder signed an undrafted free-agent deal with the Green Bay Packers in 2016.

With Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Evan Smith and New Orleans Saints tight end Josh Hill, Phillips gives Idaho State three alumni on NFL rosters.

"It's good get the name out there, good to get the brand out there," Phenicie said. "That definitely helps with recruiting, shows that people notice us and pay attention to what we're doing."

Former Weber State cornerback and 2017 Big Sky Defensive MVP Taron Johnson was the lone Big Sky player drafted. Johnson went in the fourth round (121st overall) to the Buffalo Bills.

Reign Sports Management, which is based in Seattle, also represents former University of Washington tight end Will Dissly, who was drafted by the Seahawks in the fourth round.

Among the Seahawks' other draft picks are San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny and Central Florida linebacker Shaquem Griffin. Griffin has one hand because of genetic disorder and gained fame for helping UCF complete an 13-0, 2017 season, including a victory against Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Next for Phillips is the Seahawks' three-day rookie minicamp in mid-May. Phillips graduated from Idaho State with a degree in sociology after the fall semester.
