Idaho State will not renew the contract of assistant football coach Dorian Keller, confirmed by ISU Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey on Saturday. Keller coached the Bengals’ offensive line during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Keller’s exit gives ISU head coach Rob Phenicie two coaching positions to fill for next season. Former defensive coordinator/safeties coach Spencer Toone was fired during the team’s bye week near the end of the season, ending his five-year tenure with the program. Tingey said Phenicie made his decision on Keller “a couple weeks ago.” Idaho State also lost volunteer defensive assistant coach Britt Maughan, who left ISU to become the defensive coordinator at Adams State.

Under Keller’s tutelage, three Bengals offensive linemen earned all-Big Sky Conference honors. Brian Fineanganofo was named honorable mention all-conference in 2016 and 2017, Chase Collins earned third-team honors in 2017, and Skyler Phillips was a first-team honoree this year — adding to a long list of All-America accolades and an invitation to the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

The Bengals ranked fifth in the Big Sky last season in rushing offense, but gave up a Big Sky-high 34 quarterback sacks.

Keller’s contract with ISU runs through June 2018. Tingey said Keller will be reassigned within the university until he finds another job, or his contract expires.
