A 24-year-old Blackfoot man died Sunday morning as the result of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 91 in Bingham County, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 7:22 a.m. Sunday on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 91 in Bingham County near the Sage Hill Truck Stop & Casino, according to a news release from the Idaho State Police.

Colby John Platt, who died in the crash, was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Highway 91 and an 82-year-old man from Blackfoot was driving a 2017 Ford F150 pickup northbound in the turn lane when the vehicles collided, state police said.

The 82-year-old man driving the Ford pickup was wearing a seatbelt while Platt was not, police said.

Both drivers were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals, according to state police.

Platt, who was identified as the driver of the Jeep on Monday by the Bannock County Coroner’s Office, died at the hospital on Sunday, state police said.

“My deepest condolences go out to Colby’s family and friends in this difficult time,” said Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner.

The incident remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
