When is responsibility seen as part and parcel of our freedom these days?  Have we not become so independent and self-protected here in the "home of the free and the brave" as to take those words so literally as to erase the possibility of the Common Good?
 
Complete with our guns, once used only to hunt food or with special permission as militiamen in the time of the Revolution, we now "hunt down our enemies"--aka those we hate or are angry with for one reason or another.  Even though we are not technically at War, we are in so many ways precisely that.
 
I would strongly suggest that we do have so many everyday things that need improvement currently in our country that it is not easy to agree on what those things are or how we might address them.  And as long as we can crawl into our comfortable spaces or among those we agree with, we forget that in a democracy we are free to voice our opinion in a more transparent way than social media.  
 
And that brings us back to responsibility--surely the other half of freedom!
