POCATELLO — Trebelle Piano Trio will present its newest program this fall, entitled “Tapas.” The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1350 Baldy Ave. in Pocatello.

This innovative program features short musical works by several composers, including Josef Suk, Astor Piazzolla, Enrique Granados, Joaquin Turina, Maurice Ravel and more. The one larger work being performed is Paul Schoenfeld’s “Café Music,” which is an exciting and jazzy showpiece for all three instruments.

The Spanish-influenced first half of the program encourages the listener to imagine having a culinary parade of delights at an outdoor café. Rather than having a huge meal, the tapas idea allows many “small plates” to be tasted. A wide range of tempos and expressions can be found among these composers’ compositions, and everyone will find something that pleases them.

“Café Music,” by American composer Paul Schoenfeld, is a three-movement work that brings jazz elements to the classical realm, much in the way that George Gershwin did before him. The sultry and relaxed second movement, which contains gorgeous melodies and surrounding harmonies, is sandwiched between two fast-paced and thrilling movements, which demand virtuosic skill from the musicians.

Trebelle is Idaho’s premiere piano trio, featuring violinist Jennifer Dunn, cellist Heidi Nagel and pianist Robyn Wells. They have been performing together since 2012, and have concertized throughout Idaho and the Intermountain West. Their tour this fall includes seven performances in Idaho and Montana.
