POCATELLO — The Portneuf Valley Audubon Society’s Thursday meeting will feature the presentation “Mink Creek Wildlife and the Effects of Human Recreation” by Jon Dudko, Idaho State University biology graduate student, at 7 p.m. in the Marshall Public Library Community Room.

Dudko is in the midst of a study on the Caribou National Forest and the Mink Creek drainage. The primary objective is to answer problem questions, including how are communities of wild animals impacted by human use of natural areas and what shape is the relationship between human use and disturbance on wildlife communities. A second, and equally important, objective is to initiate the collection of a legacy data set of birds and small mammals present in the Mink Creek drainage.

His study uses recent advances in statistical modeling and remote camera-trapping technologies and techniques. The Portneuf Valley Audubon Society is helping fund Dudko’s study with a $1,000 donation.

The PVAS Saturday field trip is to look for ducks and loons on American Falls Reservoir and the Snake River. Dress for the weather and bring some snacks. To carpool, meet at 9 a.m. in ISU parking lot by the Bison Sculpture behind the Idaho Museum of Natural History Building (5th and Dillon). The field trip will be done by noon.

The public is invited to attend PVAS meetings and field trips.
