n Calvary Chapel Christian School presents “A Spring Talent Show and Dinner Fundraiser” today at 6 p.m. This fun evening will include a baked potato/nacho bar, delicious desserts for sale and live and silent auction items. n The seventh annual “ISU’s Got Talent” competition will be today at 7 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom featuring the best performers that ISU has to offer. Admission for the event is $5 for the public, $3 for ISU staff, and free for ISU students with Bengal I.D.

n Rocky Mountain Writers Festival will be today at 7 p.m. at Bru House, 502 N. Main St. in Pocatello. MC is Will Peterson, owner Walrus and Carpenter Books and festival organizer. Poets include Parris Butler, Brekke Dalley, Arthur Dolson, Andrea Smith Hansen and Eric Whiteside. Prose writer is Chris Swensen, the editor of literary journal Black Rock and Sage.

n Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter announced that the Cassia County community of Declo will host his 101st Capital for a Day today. The meetings provide local residents an opportunity to have open discussions about government issues and public policy with Otter, members of his cabinet and other senior state officials. The Capital for a Day is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the band eoom at Declo High School, 505 E. Main St. in Declo.

n Elder Vern P. Stanfill, General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will address 2,297 graduates at Brigham Young University-Idaho’s 2018 Winter Semester Commencement today. The event will be held at 5:45 p.m. in the BYU-Idaho Center.

n More than 35 presenters from across the western United States will present at Idaho State University’s 13th Intermountain Gender and Sexuality Conference today. The conference will begin 9 a.m. Events will be held in the Rendezvous Complex Suites A and B.

n Idaho State softball will be at Miller Ranch Stadium at Bartz Field today for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m., followed by a single game Saturday at 1 p.m., all against Sacramento State. Admission is free, so come on out and root for the Bengals.

n “Insidious: The Last Key” is playing at the Bengal Theater today and Saturday at 7 and 9:45 p.m. Admission is $3 for the public, $2 for ISU staff and free for ISU students with Bengal ID.

n The Friends of the Marshall Public Library are hosting the spring used book sale at the Marshall Public Library, 113 S. Garfield Ave. Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Prices are $2 for hardback books and $1 for paperbacks Friday. Saturday sees prices cut to $1 for hardbacks and 50 cents for paperbacks. After noon on Saturday, “Bag-o’-Books” will be available for $3 and bags are provided.

n The Pocatello Branch of the American Association of University Women invites all members and others interested to attend our Saturday no-host lunch meeting from noon to 2 p.m. at Café Tuscano, 2231 E. Center St. We’ll hear brief reports on the February AAUW Idaho Lobby Corps presentation, Women’s History Month events and Equal Pay Day, followed by a discussion of fundraising ideas. Membership is open to anyone holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. New members may join for half price at the meeting. n Pocatello's Second Saturday contra dance will be held Saturday at the First Congregational UCC Church, 309 N. Garfield Ave. The dance runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Irish music is provided by The Wild Potatoes from Idaho Falls. The beginners' session at 7:30 pm is highly recommended for those who are unfamiliar with this dance. Suggested donation is $7 per dancer. n Rocky Mountain Writers Festival will be 7 p.m. Saturday at The Bridge, 230 W. Bonneville St. in Pocatello, with a tribute to Harald Wyndham and Blue Scarab Press. MC is Leslie Leek, short story writer and festival’s primary organizer. Limberlost Review’s publisher Rick Ardinger will travel from Boise to distribute books published by Wyndham.

n The Pocatello High School Education Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Jack R. Wheatley and the Honorable Jim D. Pappas as 2017-2018 Distinguished Alumni. They will be honored, along with 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year, Karen Whittier, at the annual Heritage Club Banquet, sponsored by Pocatello Periodontics, on Saturday at Juniper Hills Country Club.
