n The ISU Percussion and Steel Band will perform today at 7:30 p.m. in Goranson Hall at the Fine Arts Building. Admission is free. All are welcome to attend.

n “Union Pacific Railroad Update” will be the program topic today at the Pocatello Rotary Club luncheon meeting at noon at the Pocatello Clarion Inn, 1399 Bench Road. The program speaker will be Nathan Anderson, director of public affairs for UP. Anderson acts as the public face of the company in Idaho, Utah, Nevada and Montana. In his presentation, Anderson will provide an update regarding UP in Idaho with an emphasis on their operations in the Pocatello community.

n The Idaho Humanities Council is hosting a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist this week at a lecture series in Idaho Falls. James B. Stewart, a columnist for the New York Times, will speak today at the council’s 11th annual Eastern Idaho Distinguished Humanities Lecture at the Shilo Inn. The event will begin with a no-host reception at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., with Stewart’s talk to follow.

n The city of Idaho Falls and generous partners invite the community to a very exciting and historic groundbreaking ceremony for the city’s newest park, Heritage Park. The ceremony will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Waterfront at Snake River Landing, 1220 Event Center Drive. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 3:30 p.m. to allow time for parking and shuttle service to the ceremony site.

n City of Pocatello City Council study session will be today at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers at Pocatello City Hall. City Council executive session will immediately follow in the Paradice Conference Room.

n City of Pocatello police union negotiations will be today at 1 p.m. in the Iwamizawa Conference Room at Pocatello City Hall.

n Rocky Mountain Writers Festival will be today at 7 p.m. at Portneuf Valley Brewing. Krishna Strong, zoo keeper, will MC. Writers include Jackie and Ralph Maughan, essay, novel, and political commentary; Anne Merkley, scholarly work; Jonah Andrist, short stories; and newcomer Mari Christmas. Returning singer/songwriters are Dr. Angier Wills and Matt Murdock.

n The Idaho State University Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held in the ISU Pond Student Union Wood River Rooms today from 3 to 4:30 p.m. ISU undergraduate research students will have the opportunity to showcase their research to their peers, local entities and the public. The free, public event displays research, innovative ideas and creative projects undertaken during the past year by undergraduate students at ISU.

n Calvary Chapel Christian School presents “A Spring Talent Show and Dinner Fundraiser,” Friday at 6 p.m. This fun evening will include a Baked Potato /Nacho Bar Dinner, delicious desserts for sale, and live and silent auction items. The exciting entertainment will be performed by students and families of Calvary School. n The 7th annual “ISU’s Got Talent” competition is this Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom featuring the best performers that ISU has to offer. Admission for the event is $5 for the public, $3 for ISU staff, and free for ISU students with Bengal I.D.

n Idaho State Softball is at Miller Ranch Stadium at Bartz Field this Friday for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., followed by a single game Saturday at 1 p.m., all against Sacramento State. Admission is free, so come on out and root for the Bengals.

n Rocky Mountain Writers Festival will be Friday at 7 p.m., Bru House. MC is Will Peterson, owner Walrus and Carpenter Books and festival organizer. Poets include Parris Butler, Brekke Dalley, Arthur Dolson, Andrea Smith Hansen, and Eric Whiteside. Prose writer is Chris Swensen, editor, literary journal Black Rock and Sage.

n Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter announced that the Cassia County community of Declo will host his 101st Capital for a Day on Friday. Otter brings state government to Idahoans living outside Boise each month by making a different town in Idaho the state’s “Capital for a Day.” The meetings provide local residents an opportunity to have open discussions about government issues and public policy with Otter, members of his Cabinet and other senior State officials. The Capital for a Day on April 13th is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Band Room at Declo High School, 505 E. Main Street in Declo.

n Elder Vern P. Stanfill, General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will address 2,297 graduates at Brigham Young University-Idaho’s 2018 Winter Semester Commencement on Friday. The event will be held at 5:45 p.m. in the BYU-Idaho Center.

n More than 35 presenters from across the western United States will present at Idaho State University’s 13th Intermountain Gender and Sexuality Conference today and Friday. The conference will begin at 1 p.m. today and 9 a.m. on Friday. Events will be held in the Rendezvous Complex Suites A and B.

n “Insidious: The Last Key” is the movie this weekend at the Bengal Theater, playing today at 7 p.m. with shows Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9:45 p.m. Admission is $3 for the public, $2 for ISU staff and free for ISU students with Bengal ID.
