AMERICA250/BLACKFOOT125 UPCOMING EVENTIt’s the month for a movie and popcorn! Each week the America250 Patriotic Film Festival at the Blackfoot Movie Mill will show a different movie that celebrates the preservation of our freedoms, either in the nation’s forming or our journey to flourish as a nation throughout the last 250 years.

This month’s Revolutionary Spud Buddy is Marquis de LaFryette who will be attending Friday, March 20, at the 3 p.m. matinee. Next week he will be joined by some distinguished patriot spuds. No, not Mel Gibson….

The promised account of the rise of the Marquis de LaFayette to major general is best told in their presence next week.

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERSThe AARP is helping with income taxes every Tuesday and Thursday night from 5-8 p.m. at the Bingham County Senior Center at 20 East Pacific Street. This service is free and open to anyone.

The Bingham County Historical Museum is temporarily closed while they are doing renovations. They will have a grand reopening in the Spring — whenever that is this year.

The Candy Jar Gallery showing of the works of Mabel Bennet Hutchinson and Brent cotton continues until Thursday, March 26. Don’t miss out on some beautiful watercolor, oils and wood work done by locally born artists. The Gallery is located at 105 NW Main St. in Blackfoot.

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGSWednesday:

Legislators update and Q&A is at 7 a.m. at Dawn Enterprises at 280 Cedar St. in Blackfoot. Ever wish to be heard? Here is the chance.

The Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be at Melina’s, 465 NW Main St., starting at 11:30 a.m. The speaker is Jared Oviatt of BBSI, who will be speaking about the book “Leadership and Self-Deception: The Ego Trap in Business.” Come learn how to be a better leader. Didn’t get much luck on St. Patrick’s Day? Don’t forget to pick up your Lucky Charm Cookies at the Bingham County Senior Center. For the best luck- or any luck — get there before 3 p.m.

Trusting that Spring is here, Just Breathe Yoga in Blackfoot is having a Spring Equinox Yin + Sound Bath experience from 7-10 p.m. Think of it like a “gentle spring clean” for our

minds and nervous systems. “Reset, release, renew” and move forward with fresh energy. Costs $25 and you need to reserve a space. They are located at 361 N. 150 W. inblackfoot.

Friday:

Don’t miss out on the Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry tonight at 5 p.m. at the St. Bernard’s Catholic church. This will be their last one of the year. Cost is $13.99 for a large piece of fish, baked potato or fries, coleslaw, homemade dessert and drink. The church social hall is located at 583 W. Sexton St. in Blackfoot.

Saturday:

The Kingdom of Artemisia is coming to Blackfoot to hold a Baronial Champion day at 168 S. University Ave. in Blackfoot. In fact, the Barony of One Thousand Eyes calls all to come prove themselves “bold of arm, swift of blade, and clever of craft” to vie for “honor, glory and eternal bragging rights!” There will be competitions, pageantry, a five-course feast and maybe a chance to “change your stars.” The Kingdom will temporarily be at the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist church from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. For details on cost call Lady Hailey Nic Crestina (Hailey Michel) at 208-541-4625.

Sunday:

Spring Equinox Seed Planting and Sound Bath is being hosted by One Beat Wellness Studio at 30 W. Bridge St. in Blackfoot. The equinoxes are when the light and dark hours of the day are balanced and are a reminder of harmony. The spring equinox can also be about renewal and new beginnings. Most understand seed planting, but a sound bath? That is where you sit or lie comfortably while crystal singing bowls are played around you bathing you in rich tones and vibrations to bring deep relaxation. Monday:

Collet’s Pub in Firth is dropping BINGO balls tonight at 7 p.m. The cards are free and there are lots of prizes and good food as well.

Music and fun are being offered at the Tumbleweed Saloon at 7:30 p.m. Located at 40 W. Pacific St. in Blackfoot, they have two indoor bars, an outdoor patio, pool table, darts, juke box — and tonight the Paige and Jud Erickson live! No cover charge.

Tuesday:

The Youth Drawing contest deadline — for artists in 6-12 grades — is today by 6 p.m. Take your masterpiece to Solace Counseling at 725 Jensen Grove Drive, Suite 4 in Blackfoot.

The free Community Dinner Table will have a hot meal ready for you at 5 — 6:30 p.m. at the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church located at 168 S. University for the next two weeks. Come and absorb enough community love and support to last until the dinners start again in November.

Blackfoot P&Z Public Hearing Meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the City Council Chambers when they will possibly pass the 2025 Comprehensive Plan, hear citizen’s concerns about ordinance changes concerning RVs, recreational vehicles and manufactured homes and about annexing the State Hospital South soccer fields into the city to be zoned for commercial developments. RIPPLESWays to serve the people around you, trusting that positive ripples of good will spread out and encourage others to do likewise. Or as President Ronald Reagan said, “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”

The Village of Southeast Idaho continues to send out loving ripples to smooth young lives in foster care. And one way we can help this spring is to make Ester baskets for youth ages 2-18 years old. The baskets can be for any age and for either boys or girls. The important message for the youths is that they are loved by this community.

The donation deadline is Friday, March 27. The baskets can be dropped off at The Village at 35 E. Pacific St., the Shelley porch at 787 E. 1500 N. If you have questions, text The Village at 208-569-6298.
