The Blackfoot Animal Shelter & Rescue is holding its annual Putt for Paws fundraiser Saturday with a mini golf tournament that travels through 10 pubs in Blackfoot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event begins at the Elks Lodge, where registered teams can pick up their score sheet and get started. New teams can register at that time, though organizers encourage early arrival.

All mini golfers must supply their own putters and balls. They will have four shots to sink their putt at each course.

The shelter uses a “shotgun start,” spreading out teams’ starting points among all participating pubs. Last year’s tournament had 35 teams.

Teams must have four members, one of whom will be designated as the driver. Since the putting ranges are in pubs or restaurants that serve alcohol, all team members must be at least 21 years old.

Entry costs $100 per team, with all proceeds going to the shelter.

Teams are encouraged to dress up for Halloween. There is a separate competition and award for the best costume.

Each pub provides a putting challenge, and the pubs compete for the best putting range. Teams vote on the winner, which receives a wall plaque. Cheers and Beers has won the award for the last two years.

Local businesses have donated raffle items for participants.

The competition ends at 3:30 p.m. Teams return to the Elks Lodge at 123 N. Ash St., where scores are tabulated and votes counted for best costumes and putting ranges.

At 4 p.m., the first- and second-place teams receive monetary awards and the “best of awards” are announced. Winners typically donate their winnings back to the shelter.
