POCATELLO — KIND Conservatory is collaborating with the Idaho State University Music Department for the upcoming Candlelight Gala at the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the Stephens Performing Arts Center, according to a news release from KIND Conservatory. The event aims to prepare young pianists for the annual GEMS Piano Competition.

Proceeds will support the GEMS Piano Competition, a statewide program that offers adjudicated performances with feedback, clear goals and recognition to validate students’ efforts.

“GEMS teaches students to prepare deeply and perform with courage,” Natalia Lauk, director of KIND Conservatory, said in the news release. “The Candlelight Gala is the counterbalance—a night of beauty and restoration where families can breathe, reconnect, and feel proud of what young people are accomplishing.”

GEMS participants and their families, regional music teachers, ISU students and faculty, sponsors, and community members are invited to attend. The event will feature live music, refreshments and the glow of a thousand candles.

Guests can also attend a piano recital by Cahill Smith, a Yamaha Artist and associate professor of piano at Utah State University, known for performances that combine virtuosity with warmth and clarity.

Andrea Soleta Schmutz, Miss Idaho for America Strong, will also appear at the gala and be available for photos throughout the evening.

Piano Gallery will bring 100 pianos for its annual sale preview, and guests may try them at no cost.

The Candlelight Gala and GEMS Piano Competition are supported by the ISU Music Department, Walmart, Simplot, the Bistline Foundation and ICCU.
