Highland’s girls golf team captured the team championship and placed all five golfers in the top 15 at the Falls Classic on Sept. 23 at Sand Creek Golf Course in Idaho Falls.

The Rams posted a 31-over 319 to win the team title. Shelley’s Mallory Higham won medalist honors with a 1-over 71, while Highland’s Bekah Maughan finished second at 1-over 73.

Megan Merrill tied for sixth with a 5-over 77, Charlotte Quick placed 10th at 12-over 84, Reese Ward finished 11th at 13-over 85, and Maya Jeppesen tied for 14th with a 17-over 89.

Century placed third in the team standings at 50-over 338, led by Kambell Richards, who tied for third individually with a 3-over 75. EJ Elquist also cracked the top 10, tying for sixth at 5-over 77.

Pocatello finished 11th as a team (128-over 416), while Blackfoot placed 12th (133-over 421).

On the boys side, Thunder Ridge’s Justin Anderson shot a 7-under 67 to win individual medalist honors and lead the Titans to the team title at 10-under 278.

Highland finished third in the team standings at 23-over 311, with Tom Stringfellow tying for 10th individually at 3-over 75.

Preston placed fifth as a team at 30-over 318, with Tayne Broadhead also tying for 10th at 3-over 75.

Blackfoot’s Kyle Steidley posted the area’s top individual finish, placing seventh with a 2-over 74. The Broncos tied for ninth as a team at 38-over 326.

Century placed seventh (34-over 322), while Pocatello finished 12th (53-over 341).

GRACE LUTHERAN WINS HOME LEAGUE DOUBLEHEADER

The Royals (7-7, 6-4 1A Rocky Mountain Conference) snapped a four-game losing streak by sweeping a pair of 1A Rocky Mountain Conference opponents Saturday at home, defeating Clark County 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-22) and Sho-Ban 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-13).

Sarah Krause totaled eight aces, 13 kills and two digs across both victories, while Maleah Iverson dished out 19 assists to go with six aces and Aria Stoddart chipped in four aces, five kills and a block.

WEST SIDE GOES 3-1 OVER THE WEEK

The Pirates (13-10, 4-2 3A South East Idaho Conference) posted a strong week with three victories in four matches.

West Side defeated Declo 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 25-14) on the road on Sept. 24, then dropped a 1-3 decision to Malad (25-19, 15-25, 24-26, 18-25) at home Thursday. The Pirates bounced back Saturday with a pair of road wins, topping North Fremont 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-21) and sweeping Challis 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-11).

PRESTON 3, MARSH VALLEY 0

The Indians (15-4, 2-1 4A South East Idaho Conference) rolled to a straight-set victory on the road Saturday, winning 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 in league play.

Tayla Wakley and Mackley White each posted eight kills, while Avery Madsen served up three aces.

SNAKE RIVER 3, MARSH VALLEY 0

The Panthers (15-10, 2-1 4A South East Idaho Conference) cruised to a 25-17, 25-12, 25-8 sweep Thursday at home in league play.

Sanorah Garza and Aydyn Anderson each delivered nine kills for Snake River, while Aydyn Anderson also compiled 16 digs and 14 assists. London Lee distributed 11 assists, Presley Mathews notched four aces and 10 digs, and the blocking effort was led by Fay Driscoll with four, followed by Mayleigh Carter and Emma Cook with three apiece.

SODA SPRINGS 3, DECLO 0

The Cardinals (7-6-6, 2-3 3A South East Idaho Conference) outlasted the Hornets in a five-set thriller, winning 25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 20-25, 17-15 in conference play Thursday night at home.

Soleil Somsen led Soda Springs with 22 kills, while Tara Vedder added 20 kills and two aces. Ana Davis had five aces, seven kills and 12 digs, and Jocee Tingey dished out 37 assists to go with nine digs.

The Rams (9-11, 1-2 6A High Country Conference) dropped their fifth straight match, falling 20-25, 14-25, 19-25 at home Thursday in league play.

Brinley Homer paced Highland with five kills and seven digs, while Kennedi Winder anchored the defense with 14 digs. Britt Reno set up the offense with eight assists, Jaycie Homer added four kills, eight digs and seven assists, Jane Christensen chipped in four kills and Alivia Blad recorded seven digs.

The Grizzlies (9-9-1, 1-1 2A High Desert Conference) fell in straight sets on the road Thursday, losing 20-25, 17-25, 15-25 in nonconference play.

Brook Wakefield paced Grace with 19 digs, while Lakelynn Zulu added 18 digs and Bella Eddins chipped in 11 digs.

The Bears (25-3, 3-0 4A South East Idaho Conference) dominated in a 25-11, 25-12, 25-13 nonconference sweep Thursday at home.

KortLyn Skinner paved the way with 15 kills and nine digs, while Halle Wells had 13 kills, six digs and two aces. Avery Hunter finished with six kills and 16 digs, Londyn Lufkin posted 10 kills and three aces, and Paisley Lloyd tallied seven digs and four aces.

The Dragons (18-9, 5-0 3A South East Idaho Conference) ended a five-game losing streak with a 19-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-18 win Thursday at West Side in league play.

Jette Nelson led Malad with 17 kills, while Liv Nelson added 13 kills. Izzy Haycock distributed 45 assists to go with 23 digs, Paityn Ward recorded 35 digs and three aces, and Mady Vanvebber blocked four shots.

The Royals dropped a tight straight-set match on the road Thursday night in 1A Rocky Mountain Conference play, losing 22-25, 28-30, 21-25.

Sarah Krause had an ace, six kills and 11 digs for Grace Lutheran, while Maleah Iverson posted an ace, four kills, 18 assists and five digs and Giana Maag finished with three kills and 12 digs.

The Bulldogs (13-6-2, 7-1 1A Rocky Mountain Conference) rallied from a 2-0 deficit but couldn’t complete the comeback in a 16-25, 17-25, 25-12, 25-11, 11-15 road loss Thursday.

Mahana Hatch recorded 15 kills, five aces and two blocks, while Belle Schmidt contributed four blocks and four kills in Rockland’s first conference defeat.

POCATELLO 3, CENTURY 0

Josie Haymore surpassed 1,500 career assists as the Thunder (18-8, 1-0 5A South East Idaho Conference) cruised to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 sweep on senior night Thursday to open league play.

Haymore finished with 31 assists, 16 digs, two aces and two blocks in the milestone performance. Abby Lusk led Pocatello with 22 kills, two aces, eight digs and two blocks, while Addy Gregory anchored the defense with 21 digs. Lainey Rogers posted six kills and three digs and Taylee Silcock added four kills and four blocks.

The Bears swept the Indians 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 on the road on Sept. 24 in 4A South East Idaho Conference play.

KortLyn Skinner led Bear Lake with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Halle Wells added 11 kills, Avery Hunter contributed six kills and Sharli Lufkin recorded 14 digs. Tayla Wakley had 11 kills for Preston in the loss.

Aydyn Anderson stuffed the stat sheet with eight kills, five aces, 19 digs and 25 assists, while Grace Gilbert totaled 10 kills and 22 digs. Emma Cook anchored the defense with 25 digs, Mayleigh Carter posted seven kills and seven blocks, Whitney Edlefsen registered 19 digs and Fay Driscoll blocked eight shots.

The Bulldogs squandered a 2-1 set advantage in a 13-25, 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 12-25 road loss on Sept. 23 in nonconference play.

Aliana Cruces pushed her season goal total to 35 with a five-goal performance, powering the Beavers (11-3, 6-2 4A South East Idaho Conference) to their fourth consecutive victory with a dominant senior night performance Tuesday in league play.

Jazzy Fonseca added a hat trick for American Falls.

AMERICAN FALLS WINS ROAD DOUBLEHEADER

The Beavers swept a pair of nonconference matches Saturday at Buhl High School, defeating Gooding 9-0 and Buhl 5-1.

Aliana Cruces scored seven times across the two victories, while Jazzy Fonseca added three goals.

PRESTON 7, BLACKFOOT 1

Paige Lyon and Tayli Udy each bagged a brace as the Indians (2-7-5, 0-1-1 5A South East Idaho Conference) ended an eight-game winless streak Saturday in nonconference action at Blackfoot.

Jane Bell, Laura Silva and Hannah Cole also scored for Preston.

Devree Bell factored into all three goals with two scores and an assist as the Rams (9-3-1, 5-0 6A High County Conference) extended their winning streak to six with a crosstown road victory Saturday.

Ashlynn Hale added the other goal for Highland, which handed the defending state champion Thunder (5-8, 3-0 5A South East Idaho Conference) their third shutout loss of the season.

HIGHLAND BOYS CLAIM REXBURG CLASSICO TEAM TITLE

The Rams were unstoppable at the Rexburg Classico Varsity A race Thursday, winning the team title with 33 points − 95 points ahead of runner-up Idaho Falls. Highland placed all five runners in the top 11, led by Spencer Smith in second place, followed by Cody Christensen (fourth), Josiah Barton (seventh), Reed Olsen (ninth) and Cole Morris (11th).

Century’s Ethan Hansen captured the individual title in 15:40.3, with teammate Ammon Bitton taking third. Malad’s Boston Burbidge finished fifth.

On the girls side, Highland placed second with 85 points, falling just two points short of winner Thunder Ridge. Makenzie Tucker led the Rams with a fifth-place finish, while Pocatello’s Katie Boyle took third and Century’s Adyson DeClark placed 10th.

In the Varsity B race, the Marsh Valley boys claimed the team championship with 44 points behind four top-10 finishes. Lukas Stanger (third), Bryan Nielsen (seventh), Carter Miles (eighth) and Jaxon Belnap (10th) paced the Eagles. On the girls side, Marsh Valley’s Brynley Peck finished 10th.
