The storybook season for Century High School football team finally came to an end Friday night in a 22-7 loss to Twin Falls in the Class 5A state quarterfinals.

The Diamondbacks (9-1) fell into a 22-0 hole before Justus Mangum broke through with a late third-quarter touchdown run, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback against the Bruins.

The loss, Century’s first of the season, can’t diminish what it accomplished in 2025. After coming into this season on a 17-game losing streak, the Diamondbacks posted their first undefeated regular season in 24 years.

WEST SIDE 37, WEST JEFFERSON 14

The Pirates (8-1) are making another deep playoff run look routine.

The No. 2 seed in the Class 3A State Tournament advanced to the semifinals for the ninth consecutive year Friday night in Dayton.

Drake Sage nearly hit the century mark, grinding out 96 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries to lead the two-time defending state champions. Micah Benavidez provided the explosive plays, hauling in two touchdown receptions, while Tanner Henderson and Jaden Fuller each added rushing scores.

The victory wasn’t without its challenges for West Side. The Pirates were actually outgained 239-217 by the Panthers, but timely scoring and championship experience made the difference when it mattered most.

KIMBERLY 42, AMERICAN FALLS 0

The Beavers’ (8-3) best season in over a decade came to an abrupt end Friday night in the Class 4A state quarterfinals.

They struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the Bulldogs, with Zak Grigg’s seventh interception of the season providing the lone bright spot in an otherwise difficult night.

The lopsided defeat was American Falls’ worst of the season, but it shouldn’t overshadow what the Beavers accomplished in 2025. Their 8-3 record and quarterfinal appearance marked their most successful campaign in 14 years, a significant step forward for the program.

BISHOP KELLY 40, BLACKFOOT 8

The Broncos’ (7-4) season came to an end Friday night in the Class 5A state quarterfinals.

They came out firing, with senior quarterback Austin Arave scoring on the opening drive to knot the game at 8-8 in the first quarter. But that would be their only trip to the end zone.

The Knights seized control from that point forward, reeling off 32 unanswered points to pull away and advance to the semifinals.

SUGAR-SALEM 55, SNAKE RIVER 6

For the second consecutive year, Panthers’ (6-5) championship dreams ended at the hands of the same opponent, in the same round, with the same gut-wrenching result.

The top-seeded and three-time defending state champion Diggers (8-1) Sugar-Salem, the three-time reigning state champion, cruised in a Class 4A State Tournament quarterfinal game at the ICCU Dome.

The game was effectively over by halftime, with Sugar-Salem building a 34-6 lead behind quarterback Frank Fillmore’s perfect passing performance — 6-for-6 for 153 yards and a touchdown. Running back Kimball Tonks was equally devastating, rushing for 97 yards and two scores on just eight carries.

Snake River’s offense managed just 218 total yards. Quarterback Bryden Mortensen completed 10-of-26 passes for 137 yards, but the Panthers couldn’t sustain drives against the Diggers’ stingy defense. Their lone score came on a 1-yard touchdown run by Mortensen early in the first quarter.

The statistics told a sobering story. Snake River converted just 4-of-12 third-down attempts and was dominated in field position throughout. Sugar-Salem controlled possession and racked up 632 all-purpose yards.
