The Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels split two Saturday games at the Boise Summer Classic. They dropped game one to the Treasure Valley Stars, 9-4, before beating Centennial 15-5 in six inning.
Treasure Valley opened up an 8-0 lead by the second inning and held Pocatello at bay. The Runnin’ Rebels amassed nine hits but stranded 10 runners on base.
Pocatello was also forced to burn through four pitchers, none of whom threw more than 2 2/3 innings.
“We’re a little sore and hurting on pitching and that hurt us today,” said Runnin’ Rebels coach Dan McCaskill.
CC Burrup, Kade Hall and Kam Farnsworth had two hits apiece.
In game two, the Runnin’ Rebels came alive for eight runs in the third inning and rolled to a 15-5 victory.
Hall and Burrup continued their hot hitting with three hits each. Hall hit a double and knocked in three runs while Burrup clubbed a triple and collected four RBIs.
“CC hit the ball well today and Kade’s been hitting the ball well all year,” McCaskill said. “CC’s swinging a big bat for a little guy and he’s hitting the ball hard.”
The Runnin’ Rebels combined for a double and three tripled as they piled up 15 hits. Dawson Keller and Saben Rodriguez teamed up on the mound to hold Centennial to six hits.
Pocatello finished pool play 3-2.
