BLACKFOOT — An adult male threatening self-harm locked himself in a bathroom at a Blackfoot convenience store on Sunday evening.
The incident took place at The Short Stop on South Broadway shortly before 6:30 p.m.
Blackfoot Police Chief Kurt Asmus said the man was experiencing some emotional distress and was threatening to harm himself. He had two knives with him.
Police responded to the scene and were able to use a key to access the bathroom. They talked with the man for awhile and were able to convince him to give up his knives, Asmus said. Although no one was injured in the incident, the man was taken to Bingham Memorial Hospital for further assistance.
Asmus said the officers, who were on scene for nearly an hour and a half, did an excellent job in responding to the situation, and he hopes the man involved is getting the assistance he needs.
No charges were filed in connection to the incident.
