The Emperors' New Clothes Planners and movers involved in the Siphon Road development and taxpayers should slow down and rethink that project.

We are a small city. Our funds are finite, and when funds are limited, the very first thing that should be done is to say, "We will save our resources, gain interest on those monies, and begin construction when we, absolutely, have enough to fully fund the project."

Isn't jumping into an iffy project what got the city into trouble before, many times? If you look at other such projects, you can see the logic there. Anyone who looks at the kitschy messes built in Idaho Falls, with not much going on and few stores and residences built or occupied, the cute, but not productive project on the river in Coeur d' Alene, and the South Hills mini mansion, gated community in Spokane can see they are a monumental waste of funds with little return so far. Living legacies are one thing, trendy shops and local small town feel another, and living in a community with only the " right kind" of people, while it may appeal to the paranoia of some, it does nothing to bring us together as a real community.

Chubbuck and the "good ole boys collective" might possibly benefit, but far down the road at the expense of the real Pocatello. If the city cannot now afford to do repairs currently needed in town, if they are so cheap they are unwilling to properly fund a viable recycling program from the same company Idaho Falls uses (Idaho Falls even recycles glass), then it would be a major blunder to chase good money after bad. Make the Pocatello we already have a place people will find attractive, find retail businesses and light manufactures who are willing to come into and use already existing buildings, and don't spend money we hope to have, but may not, in the future.
