POCATELLO — It’s common to see 30 or 40 dogs running together throughout Bartz Field on the Idaho State University campus, explained Mitch Fisher, who often takes his dog to exercise in the open area.
While Fisher agrees Bartz Field is a great resource for people and dogs alike, he noted that repeated pet use has resulted in a minefield of excrement in places. To tidy up Bartz Field, Fisher is organizing a cleanup set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
He’ll provide bags and he encourages participants to bring their pooper scoopers.
“It gets kind of bad in the winter like this because the snow melts and you see everything,” Fisher said. “There are tons of people who use that park.”
Fisher anticipates the cleanup won’t last long, especially if several people come to help. Cleaning up the area should also reduce the potential for the spread of diseases affecting pets, he said.
The cleanup will be contingent on weather and will meet near the softball field. Call Fisher at 208-269-0578 for more information.
