ST. ANTHONY — A 66-year-old Montana man died Friday after a UTV crash at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes, despite efforts by bystanders and emergency crews to save him.
Fremont County emergency responders were dispatched to the dunes at approximately 2:20 p.m. Friday for a reported off-highway vehicle crash, according to a news release from the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. When responders arrived, bystanders were already performing CPR on the victim.
Emergency personnel continued lifesaving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the man’s name. The incident remains under investigation and the Sheriff’s Office says no additional information will be released at this time.
“Fremont County emergency responders extend their sincere condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones,” the Sheriff’s Office release said.
Following the incident the Sheriff’s Office urged caution among the crowds who flock to the dunes each summer.
“As summer recreation continues, we encourage everyone visiting the dunes and other off-road areas to use caution, be aware of changing terrain conditions, and always wear appropriate protective gear,” the Sheriff’s Office release said.
