State Rep. Kevin Andrus of Legislative District 35 has announced his intent to step down from the Legislature to assume a new federal role, creating a vacancy in his legislative seat.

As such, precinct committee officers from District 35 will hold a public meeting on Saturday to nominate three qualified individuals to fill the vacancy in the Idaho House of Representatives, District 35 Seat A, according to a district press release issued Friday.

The release said Andrus has accepted a presidential appointment as state executive director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) for Idaho, with his resignation effective Sept. 12. When a legislative vacancy occurs, the Republican precinct committeemen from the vacated district are tasked with nominating three qualified candidates, in accordance with Idaho state law.

These three names are then forwarded to the governor, who will appoint one of them to serve the remainder of the legislative term.

All interested and qualified Republican residents of Legislative District 35 are invited to attend the meeting, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. at Inkom City Hall, 365 North Rapid Creek Road.
