POCATELLO — One of Idaho State University’s most well-known researchers has passed away.
Dr. Jeff Meldrum, a longtime professor of anatomy and anthropology at ISU, has died, according to a Thursday Facebook post from his family.
The post stated: “It is with profound sadness that the Meldrum family shares that Dr. Meldrum has passed following a battle with brain cancer. The illness was brief and he passed with his family at his side. He loved teaching and researching Bigfoot. But he was a husband and father first.”
Meldrum, age 67, was known as perhaps the world’s leading expert on Bigfoot and wrote several books on the topic. He also appeared on numerous Bigfoot TV programs and documentaries.
His family is asking for privacy in their time of grief.

I wrote what I believe was ISU's first in-house news story about Dr. Jeff Meldrum's research interest in Sasquatch. In an interview, I found him to be a soft-spoken academic who treated the topic like any serious researcher would treat any serious subject of study. I enjoyed following his very public study of Sasquatch. In our talk I don't recall hearing him ever using the word "Bigfoot."
I took Dr. Meldrum's class Human Evolution at ISU. Professor Meldrum was an excellent instructor, knowledgeable, well-prepared and committed to student success. His presentation on the 'human relic' was interesting, albeit somewhat unbelievable. Dr. Meldrum believed in the existance of Bigfoot sincerely. I will miss seeing him around campus.
