POCATELLO — Portneuf Health Trust is asking the public to donate unused bikes to be placed at the Portneuf Wellness Complex.

The goal is to have at least 10 bikes permanently located at the Wellness Complex that can be used at no cost by anyone who wishes to ride them.

Barrie’s Ski and Sports has agreed to be the donation drop-off location. Barrie’s will tune the bikes up and paint them so they are recognizable as the free community bikes.

“Barrie’s Ski and Sports is super excited to team up with Portneuf Health Trust to bring free bikes for all to use at the Wellness Complex. It’s a wonderful facility that is only getting better and we are happy to be a part of it," said Cody Nelson, manager at Barrie’s.

Shaun Menchaca, CEO and president of Portneuf Health Trust said, “Our mission is to enhance and improve health in Southeast Idaho. We are always looking for ways to make it easier for people to be healthier and more active. We thought this would be a great program to implement and give people another active option at the Wellness Complex that they may not have the ability to do otherwise. Having bikes onsite that people can use while they are at the Complex will be a great addition to the many amenities already there. We just ask that people are respectful and return the equipment so we can keep the program going for years to come.”

Portneuf Health Trust will start the program with free community donated bikes. If there is interest and people use them, it will look at purchasing more bikes, and the possibility of providing them at more locations. All it asks is that people are respectful with the equipment and return the bikes to the designated location.

Those who would like to donate to this program, can drop bikes off at Barrie’s Ski and Sports at 624 Yellowstone Ave. in Pocatello.

Let them know it is a bike for the community bike program at the Complex and they will try to get it in good riding condition.
