A popular regional food truck known for its fish and chips will be making its Idaho debut in Pocatello on Tuesday.

On the Hook was started three years ago by Hunter Anderson and Ocean Andrew, two engineering students at the University of Wyoming. Serving only one menu item — fish and chips — On the Hook’s popularity grew quickly. The company has traveled to Utah, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming in seven different trucks.

They are now adding Idaho and South Dakota to their list of stopping places. An On the Hook truck will be serving fish and chips in the parking lot of Tractor Supply Co. at 1800 Garrett Way in Pocatello from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Given its success, it may come as a surprise that On the Hook sells just one menu item. The fish is line-caught Alaskan cod, dipped in a beer batter and served with homemade tartar sauce and sriracha mayonnaise.

Seafood enthusiasts hoping to get a taste may have to wait in line for some time, though. The company has developed somewhat of a cult following, and On the Hook manager Breanna Andrew said it’s a busy day in every city they visit.

On the Hook’s Facebook post announcing its stop in Pocatello already has over 1,000 likes and nearly 400 shares, and people who have tried the truck’s fish and chips in other states are commenting that it’s a can’t miss opportunity.

Fortunately for those who can’t make it to the On the Hook truck’s Tuesday stop in Pocatello, Andrew said now that Idaho has been added to the route, Pocatello may become a regular stop for On the Hook. Andrew said On the Hook returns to cities every four to six weeks.
