Cedar Creek Wind, a 152-megawatt wind farm east of Firth, is officially up and running, according to a Tuesday announcement from Clearway Energy Group.

The start of this project marks the beginning of a 25-year power purchase agreement collaboration between Clearway and PacifiCorp, which does business under the moniker Rocky Mountain Power in Southeast Idaho.

Clearway’s portfolio with Pacificorp includes nearby power projects that include 549 megawatts of solar and wind in Utah and 141 megawatts of wind in Wyoming. Cedar Creek Wind, Clearway’s first project in Idaho, will generate enough electricity to power 41,000 homes annually within the Gem State.

“We are excited to celebrate commercial operations at Cedar Creek Wind,” said Chris Fox, vice president of construction at Clearway. “This project represents Clearway’s first clean energy project in Idaho. We’re pleased to introduce a major infrastructure investment in the state which has provided significant construction jobs and which will strengthen Idaho’s economic and energy future through the project’s many years of operations. We are delighted to be a part of the Bingham County community.”

During its construction, 175 Idaho jobs were created with 250,000 hours of injury-free labor, a $250 million investment in the local economy. Additionally, the Cedar Creek team participated in community events during the building process, donating to the Firth School District and Heart 2 Hand Bingham Food Pantry.

“We are thrilled to see the completion of the Cedar Creek Wind project, originally approved in 2008, come to fruition,” said Tiffany Olsen, director of Bingham County Planning & Development. “Although we understand the clean energy movement can be challenging to accept for some, this long-term investment will provide 3 [percent of the gross wind energy earnings to be returned to the county and taxing districts in the project area which will benefit many county residents.”

Olsen continued, “We welcome the economic diversity and local workforce created during construction and through the ongoing project operations. Not only did Clearway and Wanzek Construction Inc., contribute to the local economy by immersing themselves in our county and all that it has to offer, but they have also made an impression in our community by donating 250 backpacks to The Village Foster Care Closet as well as winter coats to the Firth School District. We appreciate their commitment to being a good neighbor and look forward to the project’s long-term success and continued investment in our county.”
