The body of a 21-year-old Boise man who drowned in Lucky Peak Reservoir last month has been recovered.

Christian Vernon Dale, who had played club hockey at Boise State, fell from a boat in the reservoir July 29, according to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office. Although he was believed to have drowned, water patterns made finding his body difficult, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

In a Friday news release, the sheriff’s office announced a Kuna diver who specializes in underwater research used sonar equipment to find Dale’s body about 200 feet below the surface of the lake.

The diver, Gene Ralston, has helped law enforcement before, according to the release. After Ralston found Dale, he used an unmanned underwater device to recover his body. It brought the search for Dale’s body — which has lasted nearly two weeks — to a close.

The Boise State Hockey Club mourned Dale’s death in a post on Facebook and said he will be deeply missed. He was known as “Buddy” to friends.

Dale was working on his student status last year but practiced with the team and supported them at games even when he wasn’t eligible to play, team President Eric Pinsky said in the hockey club’s Facebook post on Aug. 1.

Pinsky said in the post that Dale was “hardworking, with a smile on his face every day — always the one to cheer you up, to show you how to live life to the fullest.”
