One by one, dogs in kennels looked around at their new surroundings as they were loaded off the plane in Boise. Name tags on their carriers showed dogs like Spencer and Coasta, a couple of the 37 dogs who were flown to Boise from the New Orleans area.

Some of the dogs, including Coasta, need orthopedic surgery, the Idaho Humane Society wrote on Facebook. The dogs were in animal shelters overwhelmed by Hurricane Ida, according to KTVB.

“We’d like to thank Treasure Valley Subaru for providing us with a $3,000 grant which will go towards covering that cost,” the Humane Society wrote. “One pet, Coasta, was hit by car and her front leg was damaged.”

The flight was sponsored by Greater Good Charities and iHeartDogs.com. All the dogs will undergo a veterinary exam, and all but three will be at the Bird Street Adoption Center. The remaining three will be at the MCPAWS Regional Animal Shelter.
