IDAHO FALLS — A Shelley man was charged with aggravated assault after he reportedly pointed a gun at a woman after getting high on mushrooms.

An Idaho Falls Police officer responded to the victim’s residence on Coachman Drive after she called 911 Friday night.

The victim said Braxton Beck, 24, had taken hallucinogenic mushrooms and he had pointed a gun at her and told her to sit down, according to the probable cause affidavit. She said Beck unloaded the gun after she sat down.

The victim told the officer she was able to talk Beck down and convinced him to let her lock the gun in the bathroom. The officer collected the gun afterward.

According to the affidavit, Beck’s father asked to speak to him before he was transported to jail. The father reportedly asked Beck, “Did you point the gun?” Beck reportedly said “Yeah” in response.

Aggravated assault is punishable with up to five years in prison.

Beck was released from jail after posting a $25,000 bond. A no-contact order was issued between him and the victim.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. April 28 in Bonneville County Court.
