Idaho State went 2-0 Saturday at a tournament in Atlanta, rebounding from going 0-2 on Friday.

The Bengals (2-2) beat Winthrop and Abilene Christian each by a score of 3-2. ISU 3-1 fell to tournament host Georgia Tech and lost 3-2 to Georgetown on Friday.

“The team played really well today,” Bengals coach Rick Reynolds said. “It was exciting to pick up two wins. We got out money’s worth in Atlanta. Our team showed some fight playing 19 sets in just over 24 hours. We learned a lot about ourselves and have some good things to build upon.”

For the weekend, Abby Garrity led the offense with 64 kills. She also notched a double-double of 13 kills and 18 digs against Georgetown. Haylie keck racked up 107 digs and Chelsea Johnson dished 189 assists.

Garrity earned all-tournament honors. She added 35 digs to her 64 kills and has eclipsed 800 kills in her ISU career.

“The team put together more consistent play defensively today, and we were able to convert opportunities at a higher rate,” Reynolds said. “We have a lot of areas where we can grow. It is important we continue to develop our serve and pass game as we prepare for another big week of volleyball. Looking forward to getting home and preparing for Utah Valley and our home tournament.”

ISU hosts the Idaho State Invitational tournament Friday-Saturday at Reed Gym.
