REXBURG — Police have arrested a naked man suspected of harassing residents at apartments near South First West and South Second West — the second case of a naked man wandering the Rexburg area this summer.

Police said that they caught the man in the backyard of a home on Fourth West early Saturday morning. He was taken into custody and booked into the Madison County Jail on charges of resisting, obstructing, stalking, indecent exposure and malicious injury to property.

"Over the last week, Rexburg Police received numerous reports about a naked male disturbing residents at apartment complexes in the area of South 1st West and South 2nd West," police said.

The man was spotted around 4:08 a.m. Saturday in the South First West area.

"(He) immediately fled," police said. "Officers were conducting surveillance and canvassed the area to track the suspect down."

With help from Madison County sheriff's deputies, Brigham Young University-Idaho campus security and area residents, Rexburg police found the man in a resident's backyard, where he was surrounded by law enforcement and arrested.

The arrest follows a separate unsolved incident from earlier this summer. On July 6, a surveillance camera recorded a naked man walking through a Sugar City neighborhood in the early morning hours.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect in that case.
