The Idaho State men’s basketball program has added to its roster for the 2019-20 season as head coach Ryan Looney announced the additions of Jaxon Edelmayer, a 6-foot-2 guard from Rexburg, and Malik Porter, a 6-foot-5 forward from Phoenix, Arizona. Both Edelmayer and Porter come to Pocatello after playing last season at the College of Southern Idaho.

Jaxon Edelmayer

Edelmayer played his freshman season at CSI this past year when he averaged 9.7 points per game. He shot 50.9% from the field and had 87 assists to 46 turnovers.

He scored a season-high 20 points on Dec. 15, 2018 vs. Central Wyoming. He had a season-high 10 assists vs. Utah State Eastern on Feb. 7 and seven assists vs. Colorado Northwestern on Jan. 31.

Edelmayer prepped at Madison High School, where he earned first-team 5A all-state honors after averaging just shy of 15 points a game. His senior year he averaged five rebounds, three assists and nearly two steals.

“We are excited about the edition of Jaxon Edelmayer,” Looney said. “He is a great kid from a great great family. Jaxon will play both guard positions for us. He has a bright future at Idaho State.”

Malik Porter

Porter played two seasons at CSI. In his last season, he averaged 10.8 points a game. He shot 60.8% from the field and was the conference leader in rebounds with 8.5 per game. He also led the conference in blocks, averaging 1.4 a game.

Porter earned Region 18 first-team honors and was named to the Region 18 all-tournament team. He was also named an NJCAA honorable mention All-American.

He scored a season-high 21 points on Jan. 10 at Snow College. He had a season-high 19 rebounds on Dec. 29, 2018 vs. Indian Hills Community College and a season-high six blocks vs. Utah State Eastern on Feb. 7.

Porter prepped at César Chávez High School where he led his team to a 24-5 record his senior season. He averaged 11.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, and 2.1 steals per game his senior year where he was also rated the 12th-best senior in Arizona by Maxpreps.com.

“Our coaching staff is excited to welcome Malik Porter and his family to our program,” Looney said. “He is a very efficient player that can play multiple positions. Bengal fans will love watching him.”
