On Feb. 13, the Sixth District Magistrate Commission met in Pocatello and appointed local attorney Aaron N. Thompson to serve as a Bannock County magistrate judge. Thompson will take the bench in March to replace the Honorable Rick Carnaroli, who was recently appointed as a district judge for the Sixth Judicial District.

Thompson received his bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and his law degree from the University of Wyoming. Since 2004, he has been a partner in the Pocatello law firm of May, Rammell and Thompson, Chartered. Thompson has practiced law with this firm for over 17 years.

Thompson is the current president of the Sixth District Bar Association, the past president of the Portneuf Inns of Courts, and serves on the Board of Executives for Road to Recovery. He has been an active volunteer with CASA, Bannock County Family Law Court Workshops, the Bannock County Soundstart Program and the Idaho State Veteran’s Clinic (legal).

Thompson’s appointment as magistrate judge will be effective March 2.
