The Volcano Discovery webpage reported a “weak” 2.5 magnitude earthquake at Hebgen Lake Estates near the Idaho-Montana border on Sunday.

Relying on information from the United States Geological Survey, Volcano Discovery said the earthquake hit at 12:04 p.m. and was felt for over 7 miles from the epicenter.

Hebgen Lake Estates, Montana, is a small community with less than 100 residents near Yellowstone National Park and the Idaho and Wyoming borders. The area is best known for the devastating 7.2 magnitude Hebgen Lake earthquake in 1959 that resulted in more than 25 deaths.

While Sunday’s quake was a small event, seismographs installed throughout the region picked up on the tremor.

There were no reports of injuries or damage to property because of Sunday’s quake.
