The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for over a dozen Idaho counties, including the Pocatello, Blackfoot, Fort Hall, Arco, American Falls and Aberdeen areas.
The watch was issued around 3:50 p.m. Wednesday and will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Nineteen counties in southern and central Idaho are included in the watch. In East Idaho the watch includes Bannock, Power, Bingham and Butte counties and the cities of Pocatello, Chubbuck, McCammon, Downey, Swan Lake, Arimo, Inkom, Arbon, Fort Hall, Blackfoot, Shelley, Firth, Atomic City, Aberdeen, American Falls, Rockland and Arco.
Severe thunderstorms typically produce deadly lightning, destructive winds, large hail and significant amounts of rain that can cause flooding.
